This week we are focusing on how we in the electronics industry can reduce our environmental impact as we celebrate World Environment Day (5th June) and World Oceans Day (8th June).

As the world becomes more digitised with IoT ever prominent, more and more electronics are being manufactured. We may be smartly connected, but as a result, e-waste is rising rapidly. This waste contains components that can be hazardous to the environment when burned or sent to landfill. The effect this has on Air Pollution is the focus of this years’ World environment day. They campaign to reduce the amount of harmful dioxins, furans, methane, and fine particulate matter like black carbon in the atmosphere created by the burning of waste.

As businesses in the electronics industry, we have a responsibility to make a conscious effort to limit waste. So how can we limit waste?

Manufacturers are facing the continuous challenge of accurately forecasting demand as the production lifecycle changes to meet the needs of the product’s next generation, or competitor’s market entry.  In many instances, this leaves the manufacturer with excess component inventory as they move onto their next generation. When talking to manufacturers, we have found many scrap this waste because it’s a quick solution or they don’t want to admit they have excess components. Sometimes they are unaware there is even the option to resell their excess. We want to educate the industry that excess happens for a variety of reasons and in reselling components we can help electronics manufacturers reduce their environmental impact.

As the zero waste movement gains momentum, companies shouldn’t be ashamed to have excess, but instead, give that excess an extended lifespan. OEM and EMS companies can play their part in cutting down on the volume of e-waste that goes to landfill by efficiently managing their excess.

CCL do their best to play their part in protecting the environment. As a company, we recycle all office paper, plastics, tin, and glass. However, the best way we can help is to offer our service to help electronics manufacturers consolidate their excess inventory for resale which might have otherwise ended up in landfill. With options for a quick sale or longer-term consignment, CCL’s experienced team offers tailored and confidential solutions to proactively market your component stock and ensure the best return.
